Per the craft-launcher README, the launcher picks the right download for your OS and CPU (DMG, MSI, AppImage, .deb, .rpm and more), checks it against the release's SHA-256 checksums, and installs it. The Windows MSI installs for the current user and doesn't need admin rights. Portable ZIPs are also available. The official apps page recommends it as the way to install every app and keep them up to date.
